Installation and first tests of LBW processing head

The first prototype of an MPLC-based LBW processing head has been installed and is currently being tested by Susana Prieto and Rosa Mª Arias at AIMEN facilities.

This brand-new LBW head, based on CAILABS’ MPLC beam shaping technology and industry proven PRECITEC optics, can tailor the power distribution of an 8kW laser to obtain the beam shape that will produce optimal welding conditions based on simulations carried out by TU WIEN.

The processing tests aim to improve laser welding performance for MARELLI automotive application.

It is exciting to see how all Custodian partners are collaborating to achieve great results for the new methodology of application-driven laser beam, by tailoring the material microstructure and deploying this beam to solve hot-cracking in LBW.

Stay tuned and follow our upcoming news on the project developments!
